INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS

A design refers to the features of shape, configuration, pattern or ornamentation which give a product a unique appearance and must be new and distinctive. The Industrial design is a process of design applied to products that are to be manufactured through techniques of mass production. Design registration is intended to protect the designs which have an industrial or commercial use.

Industrial Designs – General Information

You can claim priority according to Paris Convention within: 6 months from the first filing date.

Member of: Paris Convention, ARIPO.

Period of protection of a design: 15 years.

Annuities: After 5 years calculated from filing date

New industrial Design application

Required for filing:

1. Drawings, photographs or other graphic representations of the design 
2. An indication of the kind of products for which the industrial design or model is intended to be used
3. Power of Attorney (notarised in English, French or Rwandan)
4. Assignment
5. Priority document with verified English
